Bidding Process and Instructions

The auction is available only to fully paid members of the Society

  • Proceeds from most items will be donated to The Boys’ Brigade Archive Trust. Note certain items have been donated for Company funds and a local Hospice.
  • The auction is open to all BBHS Members. Non BBHS members will be allowed to participate in the auction providing they pay the annual membership fee prior to the auction starting.
  • There will be a maximum of 100 lots. All items will be available for viewing before the start of the Auction.
  • Please note that members of The Boys’ Brigade Heritage Society will receive a copy of the catalogue prior to the auction via email and/or the BBHS website. The catalogue will also be available from the Editor by post but a large stamped addressed envelope (with large 1st/2nd class stamp) must be sent to 1 Stephens Road, Walmley, Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands B76 2TP.
  • The catalogue will also be made available to non-members if they wish to observe proceedings. This can be requested from the address immediately above or by sending an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. However bidding will not be accepted unless they join as full members as stated above.
  • A catalogue of items will also be available on the day of the auction.
  • The auction will take place at Felden Lodge on the above date. This will be a live auction and bids will be taken at the auction or prior to the day by the following methods:

  • When bidding the following information is required
    • Name
    • Postal Address
    • Email Address
    • Phone Number
    • The Lot Number with the maximum amount you are prepared to bid
  • You may bid on as many lots as you wish. If there are two identical bids then the bid that is received first will declared the winning bid. If you wish to withdraw a bid or alter a bid this must be done prior to the auction taking place.
  • All bids will be acknowledged. If you do not receive this for any reason contact John Pritchard
  • The appointed auctioneer will control the auction and will decide on the initial bid with appropriate subsequent increments. All bids will be in multiples of whole £’s (or otherwise at the discretion of the auctioneer) and the auctioneer will not be involved in any of the bidding personally.
  • There is no commission or other costs for the sale of items. Note that some items may carry a reserve price. If the reserve is not met the item will remain unsold. However a 5% charge will be incurred by the seller which will be passed to the BBHS for costs and arrangements incurred in setting up and running the auction.
  • Note for Society members – For those attending the auction payment is expected on the day, please bring a cheque book or other means of payment. For email and postal bidders you will be advised within 48 hours of your successful bids and then payment will be required within 10 days of notification.
  • Postal arrangements - Postal costs including packaging will be calculated (based on 2nd Class standard delivery post unless you request otherwise) and an appropriate invoice sent to you. Payment instructions will be sent with this invoice. Lots are subject to withdrawal due to non-payment within the stated timescales. Proof of postage will be obtained and no claim will be accepted against non-delivery. Registered mail can be requested and will be charged accordingly. Those attending the auction can merely take the winning lots home immediately after payment is received.
  • There are a number of larger poster items and it is anticipated that postal and packaging costs will be approx. £5. Note the posters will be rolled inside an appropriate cardboard tube.
  • A full list of winning bids will be made available on request when the bidding process has been completed and all items distributed.
